On May 29, 1997 Jeff Buckley and his friend Keith Foti wandered to this spot along the Wolf River in Memphis. They had a few hours to kill while they awaited Jeff’s band to fly into town and do some recording. It was terribly hot that afternoon and the two carried a boombox down to the water’s edge. While Led Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’ played, Jeff started to wade into the water fully clothed, boots and all, singing along to the song. The water became choppy and Keith turned to move the boombox up from the waves. When he turned back Jeff was gone. He had been pulled in by an undercurrent. Jeff’s body would be found a week later, spotted at the water’s edge by a passenger on a tourist ferry. Jeff was only 30 years old… Tomorrow, he would have been 47. Cheers to Eternal Life, Jeff.
